Two Ways To Clean Windows
There are 2 main Professional Window Cleaning Methods.
The 1st is called Traditional Window Cleaning and this use ladders, squeegees and applicators as well as a cleaning liquid and water.
The 2nd is called Water-fed Pole or Pure Water Window Cleaning.
Today we will talk about Water-fed Pole or Pure Water.
Pure water systems are a new and innovative way to clean windows. They use a process called reverse osmosis to remove impurities from tap water, leaving behind pure water. This pure water is then used to clean windows, without the need for any harsh chemicals or detergents. Pure Water is used as “normal water” contains minerals which leave spots or streaks when dry.
Pure water systems work by using a series of filters to remove impurities from tap water. The first filter is a sediment filter, which removes dirt and debris. The second filter is a carbon filter, which removes chlorine and other organic compounds. The third filter is a reverse osmosis membrane, which removes dissolved solids, such as minerals and salts.
Once the water has been purified, it is passed through a deionization resin filter. This filter removes any remaining ions from the water, leaving behind pure water.
Pure water systems are very effective at cleaning windows. The pure water is able to clean dirt and grime without leaving any streaks or water spots. Pure water systems do not use any harsh chemicals. However, to produce pure water there is wastewater that cannot be used normally in a ratio of 5 to 1, waste to pure water.
The minerals, chemicals and impurities in water are measures using a TDS meter, these measure PPM (parts per million). Dubai for example has on average 150ppm, which is considered hard water or high on TDS. Certainly not the highest in the world but higher than UK and America for example. In order to clean windows without leaving spots or streaks, the TDS or PPM must be ZERO or very close.
The first two filters, the sediment filter and the carbon filter do not remove any PPM, so the main work is done by the Reverse Osmosis membrane. The RO membrane reduces the PPM from 150 to around 8, this is also the stage of the process where the wastewater is produced. The final stage is reducing PPM to zero via deionization resin. The water has to flow through this resin to have he last few PPM removed and make it ready to use. You can just use DI Resin without the first three filters but it is very expensive and not recommended in areas with over 100ppm in the water.
Pure water systems are typically used in conjunction with water-fed poles. Water-fed poles are long, lightweight poles that have a hose and a brush attached to the end. The hose is connected to the pure water system, and the brush is used to clean the windows. The cheaper ones are made of aluminium but the professionals use carbon fibre water-fed poles as these are stronger and lighter.
Water-fed pole systems allow window cleaners to reach high windows and other difficult-to-reach areas without having to use a ladder. This makes window cleaning safer.
Here is a more detailed explanation of the components of a pure water system:
- Reverse osmosis membrane: The reverse osmosis membrane is the key component of a pure water system. It removes dissolved solids from tap water, such as minerals and salts. This is done by applying pressure to the water, which forces it through the membrane. The dissolved solids are left behind, and the pure water passes through the membrane.
- Deionization resin filter: The deionization resin filter removes any remaining ions from the water, such as sodium and chloride. This is done by passing the water through a bed of resin beads. The resin beads attract the ions and remove them from the water.
- Water-fed pole: The water-fed pole is a long, lightweight pole that has a hose and a brush attached to the end. The hose is connected to the pure water system, and the brush is used to clean the windows. Water-fed poles allow window cleaners to reach high windows and other difficult-to-reach areas without having to use a ladder.
Pure water systems are a new and innovative way to clean windows. They are effective, and safe.
There are pros and cons to water-fed pole window cleaning compared to the traditional method of cleaning windows. The main positive is safety for the window cleaner, however, the main con would be that traditional window cleaning still provides more reliable results. The biggest Dubai specific fault of water-fed pole window cleaning is that the seals around windows in Dubai have often perished due to the sun and this can result in water entering the home. Water-fed pole systems also use more water and produces a lot of wastewater. So, you can choose which method you have your windows cleaned with, just be sure that whatever you choose, choose The Window Guys.
